Just yesterday a customer asked if she should use drain cleaning products (such as the ones you’d find at your grocery store). The plumber she spoke with felt obliged to warn her that while those products will break through the blockage they’re acid, and in reality, burn through the blockage.
Here’s the trouble: the acid isn’t picky. It will happily eat through your older pipes (causing serious damage), destroy your carpet if you accidentally spill it, or cause blindness if it splashes in your eyes. Sounds safe, doesn’t it??
That’s why we recommend using starting with tried old favorite drain cleaner. Our favorite recipe is organic is made up of common, non-toxic household items. (even better, it’s cheap!)
Simply pour 1/2 cup of Baking Soda down the drain and follow it with 1 cup of Vinegar. Place a pot of water on the stove with 2 cups of water and bring to boil while you allow that solution to sit for ~15 minutes. Then pour 1-2 cups of boiling hot water down the drain – make sure you cover up the drain hole in between steps in case a little vinegar splashes out!
REMEMBER: don’t give up! Sometimes it takes repeating the process a few times. If that doesn’t do the trick, give us a call and we’ll get it cleaned with our specialty drain cleaning equipment.
